This dashboard tracks payroll employment dynamics across major industries and U.S. states. The industry view shows which sectors drive employment changes over time and how the sectoral composition of payroll employment evolves.
The state map shows month-over-month growth, year-over-year growth, or each state’s share of total U.S. payroll employment. Data are based on Current Employment Statistics payroll employment series.

Source: Current Employment Statistics payroll employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Units: Employment levels are in thousands of payroll jobs. CES measures jobs on payrolls, not unique workers.
Important: The official net payroll change uses the total nonfarm series directly. Sector bars show the sectors included in the dashboard, so they may not sum exactly to the official total if a small sector is not included in the sector list. Contribution values are measured in percent, while employment change is measured in thousands of jobs.
Automation: The data files are refreshed automatically through GitHub Actions.
